Starbucks, Hated by Hipsters, Loved by Social Media

Coffee connoisseurs may stick their noses up at its coffee, but social media has few bad words to say about Starbucks, Amplicate found. The Seattle-based behemoth was the most loved US coffee chain on social media in the last 12 months. 88% of opinions on Starbucks were sycophantic prostrations before its coffee godhead.

Consumers praised to the skies the coffee giant’s sugary delights, such as the Pumpkin Spice Latte and its Caramel Mochas. The only major sources of complaint that led some social media users to lower the thumbs of their shaky, coffee-fuelled hands were Starbuck’s on-off Wifi and its lattes.

Social media users were very positive about nearly all major coffee chains. Only Dunkin Donuts induced a little coffee-fired ire in some consumers. The firm was the least loved coffee chain on social media in the last 12 months, with 23% of opinions on the donut and coffee specialist expressing distaste for its products.

But, still, 77% love is still much more than most other food retailers can muster on social media. So Dunkin Donuts shouldn’t be too down in the dumps about trailing other coffee chains when many other food retailers, including giants such as Walmart and Burger King, can’t even achieve sentiment parity on Twitter and Facebook.
